Wooden surelevation and self-supporting stone facades

Facing the Moulin Rouge, the project 67 Clichy involves the restructuring and vertical extension of a hotel to create collective housing with commercial space. The existing structure consists of two buildings, originally built back-to-back and later connected by a ground floor and a shared courtyard. Although the project combines preserved and new elements, it is guided by a unified vision. The main residential entrance is planned on Rue de Bruxelles.

A floor-level adjustment ensures step-free access from the boulevard. The two entrance halls and circulation cores are linked by a covered passage on the ground floor.

On the boulevard side, the existing structure up to the third floor is preserved up to the second floor and extended to the seventh, aligning with both the public space and the courtyard. On the street side, the existing two-story plus attic building is entirely preserved and extended to the sixth floor. Due to its heritage value, the existing facade on Rue de Bruxelles is meticulously restored to its original condition.

On the boulevard, the width of the window openings on the first and second floors is reinstated to match their original 1930s dimensions. These recovered proportions guide the design of the openings on the new upper floors. The entire structure is enveloped in a self-supporting stone facade with prominent, textured lintels.

The window openings are accentuated by detailed recesses. Setbacks in the facade ensure a more seamless integration of the new elements within the surrounding context. The composition is completed by large, landscaped terraces.

A focus on privacy and interior flexibility leads to the design of compact and efficient living spaces. The project also embraces sustainable construction, using a prefabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) framework combined with bio-sourced insulation.
