Projet nominated for ADC Awards 2018
The project is located on a plot that marks the entrance to the Alstom-Confluence designated development zone in Saint Denis.
Near to the proposed urban theme, the project contributes to designing the new urban landscape under construction. Its dynamic profile contributes to the architecture of the roofs, the identifying principle of the neighbourhood.
A cleft brings light from the south to the heart of the plot, creating vistas and detaching a smaller building by conversing with neighbouring buildings.
Our reflection on intimacy, sharing, flexibility of space led us to conceive of compact and rational dwellings. At the centre of the building, small- and medium-size units are organised around an optimised framework. The extremities are reserved for major triple aspect units including corner loggias. The movement of soaring roofs, the interplay of façades and large loggias stamp a strong mark seen from the station forecourt.
We aim to highlight the prow of the building by making it visible and identifiable from the station’s forecourt. The sweeping rooflines and large loggias on the south façade create a strong visual signal. At night, the façade fades, and the openings are illuminated.
Like a small urban theater, the building then reveals its entire interior and stages the activities of its occupants.
