Located on a major axis of the former town center of Massy, the plot already houses several buildings, including a residential unit, a barn, and two large hangars. These structures, reminiscent of the town’s agricultural past, are arranged around a protected cobbled courtyard along the property’s boundary lines.

As our project is part of the renovation of the town center, special attention has been given to integrating the development into its urban context, which remains deeply influenced by its historical rural functions. Now visible from Marx Dormoy Street through a newly opened porch, the cobbled courtyard becomes an integral part of the urban sequence. While the existing architecture is of interest, the true character of the site lies in its courtyard. This is why we have sought from the outset to enhance it, restoring its historical role as a shared communal space. Continuing the restored cobblestone paving, a mineral treatment guides residents to the entrances of the new housing units, which are positioned within the footprint of the former hangars.

Aiming to create a sense of generosity, comfort, and privacy, we have separated the dwellings with private gardens. Some of these gardens are accessible from the ground floor, while others are located on the upper level, revealing the restored limestone boundary wall— a unifying element of the project.

The site’s strong mineral character has led us to select hand-molded terracotta bricks, in tones that closely match those of the region’s local quarries.

La Rochelle is a university town. Each year, 8000 students attend the city’s universities. The shortage of dedicated housing is the driver behind the development of new concepts to meet this need. Our project consists of shared housing units that can accommodate 4, 6 and 8 people. The sharing of common spaces along with private spaces would provide low-cost optimised housing. These units consist of a main circulation block with a large common living space, and room modules with shared bathroom enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the space. These prefabricated wooden modules are quick to assembly and can be put at the construction site, and are a complex of efficient, low-energy loss façades. By grouping together bedroom modules, units for 4 to 8 people can be grouped together, and even more if the houses themselves are shared.

As a catalyst between city and countryside, this project draws its strength from its programming, which is divided into eight distinct plots. This distribution allows the housing units to benefit from multiple orientations while also creating gaps in the built environment at ground level. Pedestrians can move freely between the plots, transitioning from the vibrancy of Dübendorfstrasse to the tranquility of the garden. Workshops, bicycle storage, and other shared spaces transform these passageways into micro public spaces, fostering interaction.

For more rationality, the facades follow a calm and orderly design, giving the buildings a monolithic appearance. This approach ensures long-term durability, particularly through the use of a single-material aesthetic. This uniformity is punctuated by planted railings and red blinds, adding contrast to the overall design.

This approach gives the building true long-term durability, particularly due to the single-material aspect we have developed. The uniformity is broken by the planted railings and red blinds.

Facing the Moulin Rouge, the project 67 Clichy involves the restructuring and vertical extension of a hotel to create collective housing with commercial space. The existing structure consists of two buildings, originally built back-to-back and later connected by a ground floor and a shared courtyard. Although the project combines preserved and new elements, it is guided by a unified vision. The main residential entrance is planned on Rue de Bruxelles.

A floor-level adjustment ensures step-free access from the boulevard. The two entrance halls and circulation cores are linked by a covered passage on the ground floor.

On the boulevard side, the existing structure up to the third floor is preserved up to the second floor and extended to the seventh, aligning with both the public space and the courtyard. On the street side, the existing two-story plus attic building is entirely preserved and extended to the sixth floor. Due to its heritage value, the existing facade on Rue de Bruxelles is meticulously restored to its original condition.

On the South of the flea market, Rue Jules Vallès is punctuated by brick facades where the cladding wraps around the gables, creating a “seam” that visually stitches the surfaces together. This recurring feature of the neighborhood contributes to its distinctive “flea market” atmosphere.

Particular attention is given to the ground floor to enhance permeability and foster a sense of community. The existing porch serves as the primary access point and major circulation axis. Extending from it, a visual opening from the street to the shared vegetable garden at the rear is made possible by transforming a structural grid into an open gallery in the two courtyard-facing buildings. Additionally, their southern extension, which previously reached the property boundary, has been removed. These adjustments contribute to the development of green spaces and the enhancement of the perimeter wall enclosing the site.

This post-Covid project focuses on creating a secure and private environment with ample natural lights and social-friendly amenities.

The existing building, originally one story, has been raised by four additional levels, creating 32 living units, two shared terraces and a 135 m2 commercial space.
By preserving the concrete structure and brick facades, the design seamlessly blends with its surroundings through a three-layer approach including the existing base, an aligned main body, and a recessed top. The extension will use reclaimed bricks with metal railings and copper elements which nod to the building’s neighborhood artisanal heritage.

Facing the Parc de la Bergère and located between Rue de Paris and the Canal de l’Ourcq, the 160 apartments of Lot K2 in the ZAC Écocité de Bobigny are set within a rapidly evolving context, balancing industrial heritage with its future as a vibrant residential area. The development is distributed across four buildings with a total of eight stairwells. Two of these are dedicated to social housing, designed by AKA in collaboration with Tolila Gilliland, who are responsible for the privately owned units.

As a landmark along Rue de Paris, the social housing building rises to eight stories and is adjacent to the preserved Asturienne hall, a historic industrial structure. The project contributes to transforming this hall into a lively communal space that fosters interaction among residents.

A strong emphasis is placed on designing high-quality, comfortable, and functional housing. All multi-room apartments are dual-aspect, and each unit features a private outdoor space with a minimum depth of two meters. On the sides facing the Asturienne hall and Rue de Paris, the apartments include loggias that provide intimate outdoor areas. On the inner courtyard side, larger outdoor spaces are integrated into the terraced design of the building, offering expansive views of the canal, Parc de la Bergère, and the tranquil, biodiversity-rich garden at the heart of the block – a space designed for both nature and social interaction.

The project is located on a plot that marks the entrance to the Alstom-Confluence designated development zone in Saint Denis.

Near to the proposed urban theme, the project contributes to designing the new urban landscape under construction. Its dynamic profile contributes to the architecture of the roofs, the identifying principle of the neighbourhood.

A cleft brings light from the south to the heart of the plot, creating vistas and detaching a smaller building by conversing with neighbouring buildings.

Our reflection on intimacy, sharing, flexibility of space led us to conceive of compact and rational dwellings. At the centre of the building, small- and medium-size units are organised around an optimised framework. The extremities are reserved for major triple aspect units including corner loggias. The movement of soaring roofs, the interplay of façades and large loggias stamp a strong mark seen from the station forecourt.
